Celebrate the spirit of American music with a program bursting with color, character, and heart. Copland’s Rodeo sets the stage with its unmistakable frontier flair and toe-tapping “Hoe-Down.” Violinist Alexi Kenney (“Spellbinding” – The New York Times) brings soaring lyricism and dazzling precision to Barber’s beloved Violin Concerto — a work that bridges lush Romanticism and modern brilliance. George Walker’s Lyric for Strings offers a moment of intimate beauty, radiating emotional depth from the first Black composer to win the Pulitzer Prize. And Randall Thompson’s Symphony No. 2, a true hidden gem, delivers vitality and a distinctly American voice.
