(Commissioned for the Erie Philharmonic’s 100th)
Mussorgsky/Ravel Pictures at an Exhibition
French composer Maurice Ravel wrote supremely colorful works for the piano, and then turned them into virtuoso works for the full orchestra. David Stock, one of America’s finest living composers, has agreed to write a new double-concerto in honor of the Philharmonic’s anniversary. Our own Concertmaster, Ken Johnston, joins the new Concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony, Noah Bendix-Balgley. Maurice Ravel figures again in our final work, but this time to orchestrate Mussorgsky’s piano suite, Pictures at an Exhibition.
