Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5 “Emperor”
Inon Barnatan, piano
Wagner/Vlieger The Ring: An Orchestral
Adventure
Contemporary American composer Christopher Rouse’s Infernal Machine wheezes, snorts, shouts, and breathes fire into a modern world of things that go very, very fast. Beethoven’s “Emperor” certainly has its moments of heat, but it’s tempered with an exquisite and stately manner. Rising star Inon Barnatan joins us with a technical wizardry that will amaze and a musicality that suit Beethoven’s noble spirit so well. A special birthday tribute to the infamous Richard Wagner includes a performance of some of the most memorable and dramatic moments from his ‘Ring’ cycle. Joe Wos from Pittsburgh’s Toonseum will curate images projected above the orchestra by some of Western Pennsylvania’s finest graphic novelists, bringing Wagner’s characters to life in full color.
